Reset

Ahhh, this was a wonderful weekend. It was one of those weekends with the ideal mix of the fun of doing neat stuff and the satisfaction of getting things done. We went shopping (I didn't get a coat but I got some goodies), saw a movie, went to hear a band play, had a lazy date night in with a bottle of wine, went to breakfast, and cleaned the house top to bottom. So now it's Sunday night and I'm cuddling on the couch with my pup, enjoying a tidy home and looking forward to the week ahead. I feel reset, refreshed and ready for a new week.

I feel like I could be ready for anything if my bedroom looked like this one, photographed by Laure Joliet. I love the clean lines, texture and all that white. Something to work toward, I guess!

It's Elementary

As I mentioned recently, my sister is pregnant and our family definitely has babies on the brain. Whereas I used to gloss over anything child-related, now I've got my eyes and ears trained toward health tidbits, cute anecdotes, adorable baby clothes and nursery design ideas to share with her. Wouldn't this Helvetica alphabet by Modern Pop be fantastic in a hip kid's room?

Homing In

Every once in awhile, the home improvement and decorating projects and ideas that swim around in the back of my head come to the forefront and demand attention. I get anxious and want to fix everything -- immediately! I realize this isn't the best way to do things but sometimes the urge to improve, tweak and just plain nest becomes overwhelming.

I'm hoping to get cracking on some projects over the long weekend. I want to put finishing touches on our living room (and figure out what to do with two dull chairs that are bugging me), start sprucing up a bathroom and majorly de-clutter the master and guest bedrooms. And I want to rearrange and create new art for some spaces. I can't wait to start!

In the meantime, let's talk inspiration. I recently pored over the galleries on My Home Ideas. Here are some bedrooms I liked:

This headboard is gorgeous -- and I love any room with a dog!

With such a great view, simple white furniture is perfection.

These shades of gray are so comforting.

The details -- the chandelier, mirror and lamp -- totally make this room.

A crisp headboard and clear chair temper the girly bedding.

A Room in the Trees

Around this time of year nine years ago, I moved into my first apartment. It was my sophomore year of college and four friends and I bunked up in a second-floor flat in an old house.

I loved my room. It was originally a porch, and three walls were completely filled with windows. When I'd wake up on late summer mornings, all I could see were leafy green treetops. Sunshine would stream in, filtered through the leaves and a nice breeze would blow in. It was wonderful!

Unfortunately, a converted porch didn't make for the best living conditions in the winter. I froze! But it was blissful in the summer.

I recently found a few drawings I did of my room for an art class I took that year. It's a fun way to remember my old treehouse-like room.

On the Map

Maybe it's my raging case of wanderlust talking, but lately I have been dreaming about plastering a map over an entire wall.

My vision includes a map with lots of detail and character, preferably something old and probably of the entire world.
I'd love to put it in our study, with a desk sitting in front of it.

But these flickr finds offer some great ideas too.

Just lovely -- a collection of muted maps hung alongside one another.

How cool to place a big map behind a long dining table.

I love how from a distance this map looks like abstract wallpaper.

Such colorful and inspiring decor for a child's bedroom.

Dream-Worthy Bedrooms

Like so many people, I'm saddened that the March issue of Domino is the magazine's last. I loved discovering new ideas each month and appreciated the young, upbeat, give-it-a-shot approach.

The following are a few of my favorite Domino bedrooms.

Soft, muted neutrals provide such a soothing color palette.

A piece of art as a headboard is such a good idea.

This dark purple is great -- and the lime lamps really pop against it.

More pops of color, this time as clever foot-of-the-bed seating.

I'm a sucker for natural light, so I don't know if I'd ever leave this room.

I love how different patterns of red and white look so good near one another.

Blue, blue and more blue look amazing, especially accented with doses of yellow.

The cripness of this room is so appealing to me.

The moodiness of the dark walls is nicely offset by the bed's white linens.

A bed surrounded in curtains is both romantic and cozy.
