Happy May!

Spring is definitely here, and I'm loving it! The birds, the rain, the green grass and trees. And especially the flowers. This month, I'd like flowers everywhere -- popping up in my yard, in a vase on my desk at work, in accessories throughout my home and in fresh, happy clothes. Have a wonderful month!

Flowering

I've loved noticing lately how trees are blooming and flowering. Doesn't that sight make you happy? These recent paintings by Jen Garrido give me the same feeling.

The artist writes in a statement, "I favor forms that are nature-based and that tangle and overlap, lean, sit and hold. In my newest works, the compositions are hybrid and formal, have moments of representation and are infused with a sense of movement. I bring together shapes and lines that are biomorphic, animated and gestural. The ways in which the forms sit, touch, tangle and lay creates a space that is open to narrative."

Happy Weekend!

This week has flown by. But I'm looking forward to the weekend. My grandma will be in town so I hope to spend a lot of time with family and enjoying the nice weather. Have a beautiful weekend!

Garden Variety

I realize I'm on a bit of a spring kick, but I can't help it! Some flowers in our front yard are already pushing up through the dirt, and I can't wait to see them bloom. I'm not a gardener, so I love that these flowers simply show up each year. It would be nice to add a similar feel inside my home, and these wildly beautiful paintings by Yangyang Pan would be ideal.

One of my favorite trends for spring is florals, and I pretty much want to buy every flowered item Anthropologie is selling! Wouldn't a vibrant chair or plate perk up a room? And aren't the clothes so pretty and fun?

Enchanting

On this beautiful sunny morning, I'm feeling happy and inspired -- and these gorgeous paintings by Yolanda Sanchez match my mood. Aren't these works amazing? They're based on the concept of the garden, and the artist writes: "My work, in general, in a search for re-enchantment, for a way to reach below the surface of things, to find that point of connection with life. I want to engage the viewer in a sensory experience, one that is un-camera-like, un-computer-like. My goal is to nudge the viewer into a deeper experience of the present, where the 'circumference of self' is dissolved -- to provide a moment of contemplation without literally telling a story."

I certainly think they're enchanting. How about you?

Ablaze

Well, fall certainly seems to have arrived in a hurry! We're just a few days officially into autumn and the sky is gray, the air is chilly and the trees are starting to tinge gold and red. It's the rich, gorgeous colors that are making me okay with this abrupt change -- the same hues carried out in these watercolors by Brandi Solomon of My Favorite Flower. Fiery oranges, blazing yellows and bold reds are such a highlight of the season, don't you think?

While I probably couldn't rock these looks -- from the Marc Jacobs spring 2011 show -- in real life, these stunning clothes make me want to wrap myself in purples, oranges and pinks. And add a big flower!

Pretty Things

While on Diem Design's Etsy shop, I found myself drawn to two types of photographs: flowers and maps. Both are so lovely. They make me feel simultaneously energized and calm, inspired and content. And they make me want to go out and discover other pretty things today.

There's something really special about these necklaces by Lizix26 on Etsy. I love how your eye is drawn along the chain and rewarded with the beautiful stones, flowers, beads and charms at the end. Lovely!

Bloomin' Gorgeous

Maybe it's the fresh coat of snow we have today (okay, I admit, it's pretty), but my mind is jumping ahead to spring. To warm air, sunshine and flowers popping up everywhere. 

Browsing Etsy for flowery jewelry is helping me endure these last few weeks of winter. Here are a few pieces I'm particularly loving:

Love Seat

I lamented awhile back about the lack of a cozy corner in our living room and how I was hoping we'd get a chaise to remedy the situation. Well, my husband had the very thoughtful idea of buying such a chair as a Valentine's Day gift to each other. So we poppoed over to Ikea and got a gray Karlstad chaise.

I love it! I already broke it in this morning, lounging in the bright morning sun with a latte and a magazine. And my husband took a turn with it this afternoon doing work on his laptop. And our pup seems to have claimed it as her new observation spot.

Oh, and my husband surprised me white tulips, one of my favorite flowers. All in all, it's been a great, cozy, love-filled weekend.
