Fired Up

A few times this week, we've woken up to frost on the lawn. Fall is very much here, and winter surely isn't far behind. My goal is to embrace the colder weather this year, so in that spirit I'm going to focus on a good side effect: it's the perfect opportunity to make a fire.

I love spending time in a room where a fire is roaring. So I was pleased to see a gallery of fireplaces on Canadian House & Home. Here are a few photos to spark (get it?) some cozy, cold-weather ideas:

Slow Fade

I'm a girl who loves color. I usually go for clothes in saturated tones; neutrals typically bore me. However, something unusual has been happening lately. I'm drawn to grays, muted metallics and creams, even camels and beiges. Somehow, these hues seem sophisticated and understated.

So I was excited to see a roundup on Shopbop highlighting light-colored jackets, boots, sweaters, blouses and more. But I especially liked these dresses:

A Perfect Time

We've been back from London for a bit now, but I keep thinking about the amazing trip we had in the beautiful city. We walked through parks, streets and churches. We stopped into cafes and pubs. We cruised the Thames and explored neighborhoods. And we had wonderful time together. It was truly a special experience, one to remember always.

London Calling

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it: On Saturday morning my husband and I will be off to a week in London! It's one of my favorite cities in the world and we've never been there together. It will be the biggest trip we've taken just the two of us and it means a lot to both of us. We have a full itinerary planned, yet the days could dissolve into seeing a few sites and then walking through neighborhoods and parks and having fun and a few pints in pubs. I can't wait to see where this adventure leads!

Wow Factor

When I saw hairstylist Sally Hershberger's Manhattan penthouse on Elle Decor, I was struck with how cool the place is. It's graphic and striking and just ... wow. Here, have a look.

Ahhh ...

What a gorgeous fall weekend we just had. The sun was out but there was a crispness to the air, even a chilly bite at times, which was the perfect excuse to have our first fire of the season. On Saturday morning we lazed in the living room, with the fire creating such a cozy ambience. I loved it!

This perfect part of autumn reminded me of this camping engagement photo session I saw online a while back. I'm definitely not a camper but all those trees, that plaid blanket, jeans and flannel shirts and sweaters, the way the couple looks absolutely smitten ... it's just so perfect!
